During the project, on 1st July 2013 Co. Louth VEC and Co. Meath VEC merged to form the new Louth Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB).
County Louth VEC was established by the Vocational Education Act of 1930 and is a local Statutory, Education and Training Authority established under the Vocational Education Acts. The County Louth VEC provides education to approximately 10,891 people including 2325 students in post primary schools, 1480 students in Institutes of further education as well as a further 7086 learners participating in adult and continuing education.
Over the years the services provided by County Louth VEC have changed significantly and it now provides a wide range of services in second-level, further education, adult education, second chance education, youth, sport and other activities. There are now four second level schools under the auspices of the VEC within the county and two colleges of further education. County Louth VEC also manages two Youthreach centres, a traveller training Centre and provides adult literacy, adult education and Community Education throughout county Louth.
